Just a couple of days ago, I was writing a blog post about putting the garden to bed for winter, and today, it's covered in over two feet of snow! I know my kale and Egyptian onions will be fine--and hopefully, some of the other things I mentioned in the post.

Garden put to bed, but still some plants to harvest

October gardening
About 5 or 6 nights of light frost have hit so far. Not all in a row; there's been nice weather, even 70°F days in-between. So what's still growing in our part of New Hampshire?

Squash picked before a big rain that came about a week after some light frosts.

We got a late start getting plants into the huge (for us) newly-cleared and fenced field. We had to cut down the trees covering it, move them onto brush piles and stave piles, then dig holes through root and rock, between stumps, to make the hills.

The results confirm our interest in specializing in blue hubbard squash back there (plus a row of zucchini). We have until June (2021) to work on the usability and fertility of the area so we can have a field full of blue alien eggs by the end of next fall.
